I'm one of those rare Millennials who still enjoys talking on the phone. Lately, my conversations have centered around what this blog is about and why I'm writing it. After several of these exchanges, it struck me - my readers may want to know this stuff, too. Of course! All good writing answers the questions who, what, why, where, and how.
Who am I? I admit my About page is a little cheeky. I am a thirty year old woman living in Frisco, Texas with my husband, son, and dog. I grew up in Wichita Falls, Texas where I met my husband in our Freshman biology class. He threw paper at me and I asked him a lot of questions in a Katie Couric fashion. We both attended Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina then moved to Dallas, Texas after graduation. I'm oversimplifying our love story here because that's not what this blog is about. Suffice it to say that he is my biggest supporter, and I love him deeply.
The move to Dallas was strategic yet surprising. For four years, neither of us thought we would go back to Texas. But when you graduate in 2008 and begin looking for jobs that aren't there, you wanna go where everybody knows your name. I suppose that would have meant our hometown, but the Big D is only a couple of hours away. I secured an internship in a luxury retail department store where I spent most of my time in home, bridal, and beauty. A-Ha - home and bridal! Make-up didn't stick. During this time, I also worked at a Borders Bookstore. A-Ha, again! I have my father to thank (sincerely) for my love of reading. Personally, writing is a natural product of a lifetime of reading. I didn't stay with those two jobs for long as I excitedly launched my "career" in the marketing world. The end game was to do corporate events and meeting planning. This didn't happen. Again, ya da ya da ya da...I fell in love with the beauty and creative freedom of wedding planning. My husband and I were married in 2010, and I launched EventChic, LLC in 2011. EventChic's motto is Celebrate Life with Style.
My life has a natural fluidity to it that others have characterized as charmed, carefree, lucky, blessed, fortunate. I'm not disagreeing with any of these third-party observations although they tend to conjure up a laissez-faire attitude which I do not possess. Which brings me to the what, why, and how of this blog. This blog is meant to peel back the curtain and illustrate the intentional process behind a Life with Style. Since I started EventChic I've been frequently asked: "How do you come up with your ideas?" and "How do you balance the details with the big picture?" Since I've more recently become entrenched in decorating my home and hosting at-home functions, I've been asked: "Where did you find that?" and "How did you know to mix them together?" I will answer those questions (and others) by sharing honest insight, inspiration, and instruction.
Finally, a disclaimer and a promise: My home and life are in progress. I am not writing this blog from the proverbial other side toting a declaration of, "Look at me! Look at what I've done! It's perfect!" That would be so boring. I do believe that I have something to offer you: my perspective.
