Writer Tip: Always save the title for last. I didn't this post succumbing to my propensity to be "clever," and now I can't get that beloved/damn Grease song out of my head. What's worse is the refrain of, "tell me more, tell me more," mocks my inability to free the impervious writer's block....BRB connecting to Spotify.
Bernie, like the rest of us in North Texas, has been impatiently waiting for Summer to arrive. The rain finally stopped, the sun shines in full force, and the humidity lingers. And we all continue to complain. That's Texas. Lucky for Bernie, he is an indoor table so his complaints were more with me not being in a summery mood and less about the elements. My mood began to change during a sunny Memorial Weekend vacation in Denver, CO. My sister-in-law and her husband were excellent hosts as they guided us around the very cool city. We visited the S Pearl Street Farmer & Flea Market. Oh how I wish Bernie could have been there - we would have had a feast with the most beautiful asparagus and tomatoes and cheese and spreads and Mexican chocolate. I did bring him a gift that I think made up for the missed opportunity. The striped tablecloth is actually a 100% Turkish cotton blanket from Hygge Life (hoo-ga). The blanket immediately resonated with me as textiles do and once I laid it over Bernie, we were instantly transported to a SoCal beach on a cool (not muggy) Summer Night.
Bernie's Summer tablescape is all about layers of texture. The shell spheres from Zodax are absolutely mesmerizing. The sandy tone of the flowers develop a sense of calming intrigue since it is a neutral, but not natural color. The smooth glass cloches hold three strands of LED battery powered fairy lights. The battery packs are hidden by white paper shred. A jute ribbon was secured around the outer edge of the cloche. The river rocks add depth and ground everything. The gold trimmed agate and lucite napkin rings from SK Home infuses the table with just the right amount of glam for an evening meal.
